The Wand Medical Centre is still open, but the way we can all access healthcare during the Covid-19 pandemic has changed. In order to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff our doors remain closed and we ask all our patients not to visit the practice without speaking with a member of the practice team first. Most queries can now be dealt with over the telephone which mitigates risk and saves you time. In order to further support patients during this difficult time, a health app for Birmingham and Solihull patients is available. It is free to download from the Apple or Google Play Stores and is very easy to use.

You can also visit:https://app.birminghamandsolihullhealthapp.com

The app is secure and links directly with your GP practice. You can order your repeat medication via the app 24 hours per day. You can also check any symptoms you may have. The app will then give you access to the right type of advice / appointment. Download the app now so it is at your fingertips when needed.

NHS Health Checks for 40-74 Year Olds

NHS health checks are being offered to people aged 40 – 74 once every five years.

This check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, Stroke, Kidney disease or Diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it.

By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions. There is good evidence for this.

The check should take 20 minutes and is based on straight forward questions and measurements such as age, gender, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. There will be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol and glucose level.

Following the check, you will receive free personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy.
